Week 5

I probably should have kept better track of my progress and treatments, but now it's the 5th week of IV antibiotics. I think all signs of the staph/MRSA infection are now gone, but there are a few strange things I'm noticing.

My eczema is a bit worse. It's not even rashes really, but just dry skin on the trunk of my body, my thighs and the back of my neck. I can keep putting on lotions/creams but it's still a difficult recovery. The only improvement so far is the complexion of my face and neck. I'm wondering if it's better because my period's here. Yet my skin is dry from the weather being so cold. I'm hoping it's my period.

Which leads me to the next weird thing: I'm not experiencing very heavy flows for being on my period. Maybe it's the antibiotics or medications I'm taking. For now, I'm still taking a muscle relaxer for the TMJ in my left jaw and Nystatin was prescribed to me because my ID doctor thinks there's a presence of yeast in my GI tract causing eczema. To be honest, I'm not sure if Nystatin is really doing me any good. Back to the topic though, I really shouldn't be complaining about a lighter period. It's just a bit out of the ordinary.

I'm also noticing less hair growth. My legs aren't as hairy as I thought they would be. Likewise, the nails on my toes don't seem to grow that quickly. Maybe I need to eat more gelatin?

This is all just weird to me. I'm sure there are some side effects to the antibiotics I'm on now. I feel like there are many factors whether it's due to the meds, my period, or cold weather.

Oh, so a few days ago, I had my follow up with my hematologist. He says he sees no problem with my blood except of the high iGe level and a high rheumatoid factor. Given my family's history with autoimmune disorders, he's suggesting that I go see a rheumatologist because there are no major problems with my blood. So I still don't know what's wrong with me.

It's still very likely that my skin was broken enough to let the staph bacteria into my body. Only thing I can think is that I need to figure out how to build up my immune system and make sure my skin isn't so weak. Get some thicker skin, if you will. :P

It's projected that I still have one more week of antibiotics. I hope it goes quickly like it did last week.

I can't express how much I want to get back in shape. I went bridesmaid dress shopping last weekend and felt horrible that I couldn't fit into many dresses. It's way too silly for me to have a breakdown over dresses when I'm not even a bride! haha I gotta keep reminding myself to take things a day or a week at a time.

Things have gotten better the past month. I gotta keep up that spirit.

are you still taking pain meds? i found out during my never ending period that certain doses of NSAIDs actually lower period flow.

anyways, just take care of yourself! as for the dress, i dont think you should worry too much. you have lots of time to find a dress, and with your body it shouldnt be too difficult to find the right size.

im excited for you to not be on antbiotix anymore!

I'm not really taking anything for pain now. Although I do have some leftover Vicodin haha. Ok, maybe that's not funny. Now it's just the antibiotic IV, Nystatin (3x's a day for another 3 weeks), a multivitamin, and Soma (Carisoprodol) muscle relaxer for my jaw at night.

Thanks, Susan! I'm really really really looking forward to getting this PICC line removed and just getting back to normal or whatever can be normal for me.

As for the dress thing, maybe i'm just feeling down since I'm on my period. I feel a bit swollen and bloated in some places. I should probably be eating better too.

So sorry to hear about what you're going through. I would highly recommend the work of Microbiologist, Michelle Moore. She too had a pesky case of staph and developed her own natural treatment. She may have information to help your current symptoms, and help you prevent another outbreak. (Reference: www.staph-infection-resources.com) Good luck!!
